My name is Allison and I am excited to be a part of the PediPlay family treating pediatrics and adults.  Since graduating from the University of Indianapolis Masters of Physical Therapy program, I have had a wide variety of experiences helping individuals and their families achieve their goals of having the best quality of life possible.  I started my career focusing on orthopedics for both adult and adolescents in the outpatient clinic, then adding pediatrics over the past 5 years. This unique experience has enabled me to address the orthopedic issues of the younger population, while at the same time addressing the care needed as young adults and children.  While orthopedic issues are similar, treating from a “kid” perspective allowed for a more positive healing experience, thus maximizing functional outcomes to get them back to their activities quicker. I have worked with adults and children with disorders including, but not limited to, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, spina bifida, neurological disorders, gait assessments, developmental delays and congenital abnormalities.  I have expertise in treating all types of neck, shoulder, back, knee, ankle and foot disorders and injuries. I am excited to continue these skills in PediPlay’s new orthopedic division, MyPTIndy.  MyPTIndy will provide services to the adult orthopedic population as well as a specialized focus on orthopedic issues in adolescents and children.

I received my physical therapy degree in May 1990 from the Mayo Clinic School of Health-Related Science.  Upon graduation, I spent a year at the East Tennessee Children’s Rehab Center, then moved back to Indiana to pursue my dream of working at Riley Children’s Hospital.  I worked closely with the physicians to achieve positive outcomes for children and their families. As the outpatient Team Leader at Riley, I worked in multiple clinics including:  Cerebral Palsy, Spasticity, Hemophilia, Rheumatology, and casting as well as providing direct services to these patient populations.  I continued my career at Physiotherapy Associates as Clinic Director and Outpatient Pediatric Specialist.  During my time at Physio, I founded a non-profit organization called Rainbow’s END (Enabled Not Disabled).  This was an all-volunteer program that provided adapted activities for children including:  biking, swimming, kite flying, dance, and Tae Kwon Do.  I am excited to join the PediPlay team as Clinic Manager and Outpatient Pediatric Specialist.  In my office there is a sign that reads: “Do what you love, love what you do”.  In my career as a pediatric physical therapist, I have truly achieved that goal.  I love working with these special children and their families, striving everyday to help them achieve their goals.

I have always had a strong passion for working with children and I am so happy I have been able to do that as a part of Pediplay's team since 2016! My clinical work was at Children's TheraPlay Foundation, Inc. before graduating from the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at the University of Indianapolis. Throughout my clinical work I was able to collaborate with Physical Therapists to create the best plan for kiddos. I have worked with children of all ages with a wide variety of diagnoses including, but not limited to, Cerebral Palsy, Down syndrome, DMD, Toe Walking, Metabolic disorders, Genetic Disorders, Scoliosis and other orthopedic conditions,  Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita, Torticollis, developmental delay, and delays due to prematurity. My goal is always to create the best environment for your child to succeed  and meet their goals in order for them to have the highest level of function and best quality of life possible- while still having fun!

I am also bilingual and strive to help families whose first language is Spanish; by eliminating the language barrier I am able to provide the best care in order for both the kiddo and family to succeed.

I have been a pediatric physical therapist for over 20 years now.  I began my career in First Steps early intervention in 2000.  I have also had experience working in the NICU at Community Hospital North.  I have been known to sneak in a few clients at the clinic as well!  I love to see children learn how to be independent in their environment, however that mobility occurs.

When I am not working with children to achieve their goals, I am busy with 2 boys of my own, ages 9 and 12, and a very energetic lab/ shepherd mix dog.  I also love to run, go hiking, and travel.

I received my Doctorate of Physical Therapy from St. Louis University in 2013 and have since focused my career in the outpatient pediatric setting.  I have 6 years of experience in outpatient pediatric clinics in both Seattle, WA and Chicago, IL.  I am originally from Indianapolis and am excited to be back and to join the PediPlay team!  I love working in a multidisciplinary setting such as PediPlay so that the whole therapy team for a child can work towards shared goals.  It is important to me that each of my clients enjoys coming to therapy and knows that it will be fun even though it is hard work!  I have experience working with clients from birth – 21 years old with a variety of abilities and diagnoses including general developmental delay, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, spinal muscular atrophy, muscular dystrophy, conditions related to prematurity seizure disorders, genetic disorders, autism spectrum disorders and sensory processing abnormalities, orthopedic conditions/pain, gait abnormalities, JRA, torticollis and plagiocephaly, and post inpatient rehabilitation for cancer treatment, surgeries, and traumatic brain injury.
