AMANDA ALFERY

Outpatient Occupational Therapist

Hi! I could not be more thrilled to be returning to the PediPlay family after learning from such an amazing team as an OT student here five years ago. Since growing up with a cousin with Down Syndrome and seeing the incredible impact that therapy services had on his learning and wellness, I have been in love with the field of pediatric OT. I earned my Masters of Occupational Therapy at Xavier University in 2018 and spent the first few years of my career serving at an autism center for children ages 2-16 in the Greater Detroit area. In addition to working with children with autism, I have experience working with sensory processing disorders, sensory feeding issues, developmental delays, fine motor and gross motor coordination, ADHD and executive functioning concerns, and more as both a clinician and in-home caregiver. I am passionate not only about helping children gain new skills and independence, but the self-confidence and fulfillment to lead happy, full lives in their homes and communities. I believe wholeheartedly in a whole-family approach in which parents feel heard, valued, and included, such that the skills which their children learn in therapy can be carried over through the rest of their routines and day-to-day activities. I look forward to working with your family!

MARY JANE WILLIAMS

Outpatient Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant

Hi. My name is MJ (Mary Jane). I feel very lucky to be a part of the PediPlay family. I appreciate that I am allowed to be creative and think outside the box for therapy. I got to do my fieldwork as an occupational therapy assistant student at PediPlay and was then hired here when I graduated in 2013. I worked at PediPlay until I adopted my first kid and gave birth to my second kid in 2015. I took a break to stay home with my kids and was welcomed back in 2018. I come from a family full of neurodiverse people and I am neurodivergent myself. This helps me relate to many of the kids that I work with. My approach to therapy has evolved over the years. I have taken what I have learned from others and found my own unique approach to therapy. I like to use a mix of child-led play-based therapy, DIR Floortime, sensory integration techniques by Jean Ayres and nature therapy. I love finding fun creative ways to use a kid's interest to work on their goals. I have learned so much from each kid I have worked with. Every kid is so different and learns/works best in different ways.
